Vintage Fishing Lures
Often people ask me the question, “Why collect vintage fishing lures?” It is quite simple I tell them and that is how the story begins.
I was thirteen years old and it was early summer. I was helping my grandfather clean out some old things from the tool shed in his backyard. I came across an old metal box under the far end of the workbench. I pulled it up off the dirt floor and brushed the dust off to find my great-grandfathers initials scratched into the handle. Upon opening I found there to be several expanding shelves with compartments. It was indeed a tackle box and inside was all of my great-grandfathers fishing lures. They now were however very old and considered vintage fishing lures. Nevertheless I was instantly amazed. The craftsmanship that must have gone into making these lures was evident through the dust and rusty hooks. There was no plastic, no fancy coating they were wooden and very large by today’s standards. Yes, I was sure these came from a time when life was much simpler.
The image of my grandfather and great-grandfather walking side by side down the dirt road to the river instantly came to my thoughts in black and white like in The Andy Griffith Show. This single moment sparked my fascination with collecting vintage fishing lures.
That is why I have created this site. I hope to share the fascinating things that I have learned with others who share my same enthusiasm about collecting vintage fishing lures.
